Lifeguarding and WSI are spring programs at Neshaminy.  Class information for our 2009 class will be available in January.

What appears below is last year's info. Our 2009 class will probably follow the same general format. There will  be some changes in dates (Lifeguarding is on Tuesdays and  WSI  on  Thursdays) and prices may change slightly.

Lifeguard Training 2008Interested Lifeguard please read the following.

Neshaminy's yearly Lifeguarding class will begin on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Carl Sandburg Middle School at 7:00 PM.  If you are interested in this certification please read this carefully and follow the directions.

You must TEST INTO THE COURSE.  Everyone must pass a swimming test that consists of a 300 yard uninterrupted swim.  (12 laps of the pool.)  During this swim, you will demonstrate 100 yards of crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke, and 100 yards of any combination of these strokes.  You will swim these strokes in the order mentioned and meet an acceptable time standard.  The swim must be continuous and strong in nature.  Stopping at any point will nullify the test. You will also demonstrate the ability to retrieve a 10 pound object from the bottom of the deep end and return it to the shallow end of the pool in 1 minute and 40 seconds

All candidates must take the test.  There are no exceptions to this rule.
(Local swim coaches may administer this test to team members if they contact me.)

The course is about 30 hours in length.  At the successful conclusion, you will receive a Lifeguarding certificate, a CPR/AED certificate and a First Aid certificate.  The American Red Cross is very strict about the time requirements so please plan to attend EVERY class.  You will be permitted one absence during the course.  If you miss twice do not bother returning to the course.  You will not pass.  There are no make up sessions.  You cannot be certified without the proper number of hours no matter how good you may be.  Before you sign up for the course, please check your calendar.  If you cannot attend the required number of classes, please do not register.  Every year I get someone who signs up and has to miss two classes because of a conflict.  Every year someone gets angry because I have to remind him/her of this letter.

The classes will meet on:
March 11,18,25
April 1,8,15,22,29
May 6 , 13*
There is the possibility that the May 13th class will not be needed.
If you would like to take the course, please call 215-547-6354 and schedule a testing appointment. E-mail is also an accepted form of communication.  Most testing will take place in late February. Call or e-mail for an appointment.

The cost for the course (includes books, certification fees, equipment rentals, etc.) will be $170.00.(this could change slightly)  You will also be given a CPR pocket mask and carrying case.  A detailed payment plan will be available after you have passed the entrance test.
