WATER ENTRY AND EXIT

 

_________ 1. Enter and exit water safely using ladder, steps or side.

 

BREATH CONTROL AND UNDERWATER SWIMMING

 

_________ 2.  Submerge mouth, nose, and eyes

 

_________ 3.  Exhale underwater (blow bubbles) through mouth and nose-

         3 seconds

 

_________ 4.  Open eyes underwater; pick up submerged object held at arms

          length – 2 times

 

BUOYANCY ON FRONT

 

_________ 5.  Maintain a front float position with face in or out of the water-

         5 seconds with support

 

_________ 6.  Recover from front float to standing position – with support

 

BUOYANCY ON BACK

 

_________ 7.  Maintain a back float position - 5 seconds with support

 

_________ 8.  Recover from back float to standing position – with support

 

CHANGING DIRECTION AND POSITION

 

_________ 9.  Change direction of travel while walking or paddling

 

_________ 10.  Roll over from front to back – with support

 

_________ 11.  Roll over from back to front – with support

 

 

TREADING

 

_________ 12.  Explore arm and hand movements – with support in

            chest - deep water

 

SWIM ON FRONT

_________ 14.  Alternating and simultaneous leg action – at least 5 feet with support

 

_________ 15.  Combined stroke on front, any type of arm and leg action –

            at least 5 feet with support

 

SWIM ON BACK

_________ 17.  Alternating and simultaneous leg action – at least 5 feet with support

 

_________ 18.  Combined stroke on back, any type of arm and leg action –

EXIT SKILLS ASSESSMENT

q       Enter unassisted, move 5 yards (walk, swim, or travel along wall), bob 5 times to chin level and safely exit the water.

 

q       Float on front with support for 3 seconds, roll to back (with assistance) and float on back with support for 3 seconds.
